Rare variants are found to be old which might seem to contradict results of other researchers. In the following two subsections, we show that our conclusion that rare variants can be old does not contradict previous findings. In the first subsection, we argue that only because rare variants are in general recent does not contradict that some rare variants are old. In the second subsection, we support the viewpoint that rare variants are old by other publications.
